Activities Announced
In addition to the regular day, week, or month
retreats for individuals, the following activities are scheduled.

ONGOING EVENTS
- Sundays
at noon: PUJA (Ritual Worship) and Mantra Offering
Sundays at noon there is a short ritual worship followed
by a group offering of 108 mantras, or prayers, for the welfare of
all beings. All are welcome to attend. The mantras/prayers are short
and easy to repeat
- MONDAY NIGHT MUSIC (a.k.a.
KIRTAN)
If you are a musician, a singer or someone who loves music as a spiritual
practice, you are welcome to join our monthly music night. Please
refer to the current monthly schedule
for the next kirtan.

PUBLIC
CLASSES
Vivekananda Retreat, Ridgely, offers classes to the general public on
Saturdays and Sundays at 10:30 am. There is no charge for these ongoing
classes, and one may join them at any time.
- Saturdays: VEDANTA:
ITS THEORY AND PRACTICE
The Saturday class will discuss the ancient yet modern principles
of Vedanta, which is the foundation of yoga, the core of Hinduism,
the forerunner of Buddhism, the inspiration of Ralph Waldo Emerson
and Henry David Thoreau. The discussion will focus on the practical
implications of the philosophy - how to carry its principles out in
everyday life. The text being used at present is the Bhagavad Gita.
- Sundays: MEDITATION:
ITS THEORY AND PRACTICE
In the Sunday class you will learn the art and science of meditation:
what meditation is, how the meditative mind differs from the ordinary
mind, what the different types of meditation are.You will also be
led through guided meditations at every meeting. No prior practice
is necessary.
- SANSKRIT
CLASSES
Anyone seriously interested in studying Sanskrit should contact Pravrajika
Gitaprana at the Retreat. Classes for beginners and advanced students
normally begin every year in September. There will be a charge of
$100 per three-month quarter for this class. The fee includes texts
and materials.

DAILY
MEDITATIONS
Every day there
are two formal meditation sessions at the Retreat to which the public
is invited. However, we ask that you call us before the first time you
attend a meditation session. The hours are as follows:

You may come and go at any time during the meditation period: it is not
necessary to stay for the full period. We only ask that you enter and
leave quietly. |
